Getting to Capilla del Monte
100 km from Córdoba city along the Punilla highway and Route 38: about two hours by car, a bit more by bus. The Tren de las Sierras gets here too.
From Córdoba on the Punilla highway
The most direct way, and the one that gives you the most freedom afterwards, since the sights are scattered around the town.
- Córdoba–Carlos Paz motorway
Leave the city on the motorway towards Villa Carlos Paz.
- Variante Costa Azul
Before entering Carlos Paz, take the bypass that skirts the San Roque lake.
- Autovía Punilla
Continue on the new dual carriageway towards Cosquín, the fastest stretch of the trip.
- Route 38 to Capilla
A single-lane road through La Falda, La Cumbre and San Esteban. You enter Capilla at km 82, opposite the YPF station.
Tolls
You pay on the motorway and on the Autovía Punilla: AR$ 3,000 in cash or AR$ 1,905 with TelePEAJE at each toll station (July 2026 values; they are adjusted monthly). The stretch of Route 38 between Cosquín and Capilla has no tolls.
Fuel
The YPF “Estación del Cerro” is on Route 38 at km 82, right at the entrance to town, with petrol and CNG. It is practically the only station in Capilla: if you arrive on a low tank, fill up there or earlier in La Falda or La Cumbre.
Road conditions
Before setting off, check road conditions with the Córdoba Highway Police (Policía Caminera). In winter there can be fog on the Autovía Punilla; in summer, short but intense storms.

Buses leave Córdoba all day long
Between Sarmiento (regular and semi-cama) and Lumasa there are about 20 daily departures each way. The trip takes between 2h10 and 3 hours depending on stops.
Capilla del Monte bus terminal
Rivadavia 540, a block from the railway station and the tourist office. Ticket counters open every day from 8 am to 8 pm.

Online at Plataforma10 or at the ticket counters of any terminal. In high season and on long weekends it is worth buying in advance.
The Tren de las Sierras reaches Capilla
It leaves from Alta Córdoba, runs along the Punilla valley and arrives in Capilla del Monte with a change in Cosquín. It is scenic and very cheap, but slow: about five hours. Ideal if you are in no hurry and want to see the hills up close.

Tickets are sold at the station, on board or at webventas.sofse.gob.ar. Timetables change by season: check before heading to the station.
Córdoba airport (COR)
Ingeniero Taravella airport is about 110 km away. There is no direct bus to Capilla, so you have two options:
The AeroBus takes you from the airport to the Córdoba bus terminal (~45 min). From there, take Sarmiento or Lumasa to Capilla.
A remis from the airport to Capilla takes ~1h30. Ask Turbo Taxi for a quote before you travel.
On foot, by remis or on a tour
Downtown is a ten-minute walk end to end. To reach the sights (Uritorco, Los Terrones, Ongamira, the dams) you go by car, remis or with a booked tour. There is no Uber or Cabify.
Tips
- Download offline maps: on Uritorco, Los Terrones, Ongamira and Quebrada de la Luna the signal is patchy or non-existent.
- ATMs (Banco Nación and Bancor, all on the Link network) run out of cash on long weekends. Bring some cash; QR payments and Mercado Pago are widely accepted.
- Almost every shop closes for siesta, from 1 pm to 4:30 pm.

How long does it take from Córdoba?
By car, between 1h45 and 2 hours via the Autovía Punilla and Route 38. By bus, 2h10 to 3 hours depending on the service. On the Tren de las Sierras, about 5 hours with a change in Cosquín.
Are there tolls?

Is it better to come by car or by bus?
If you want to explore the surroundings (Los Terrones, Ongamira, the dams, Quebrada de la Luna), a car gives you far more freedom. If you are coming to climb Uritorco and wander around town, the bus plus the odd remis is enough.
Are there ATMs?
Yes: Banco Nación (Pueyrredón 438) and Bancor (Rivadavia 498 and San Lorenzo 141), all on the Link network. On long weekends they often run out of cash, so it is best to bring some. Mercado Pago and QR payments are accepted almost everywhere.
Is there mobile signal?
In town, yes, and there is WiFi in the main square. On Uritorco, Los Terrones, Ongamira and Quebrada de la Luna the signal is patchy or non-existent: download offline maps before heading out.
